Question:

Cannot make a call using the iphone 3G, why?

Most of the time, my iphone works normally and doesn't really have any problems. However, when I try to call someone (and yes, the phone number is dialed correctly) it often says "Cannot be completed as dialed, hang up and try again". The annoying part is, there's no warning. When this happens, the phone shows I have perfect reception. Usually this occurs just after I have "woken" up the iphone from sleep, so I have a theory that might be it, but I want to know for sure. Is this just a stupid iphone/at&t glitch, or can it be fixed? Or at least is there some sort of icon that will warn me that it will not make calls?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

  1. Just give it a bit more time after you wake it up. It may still be sending and receiving information.

  2. maybe it was used and the person who worked there did not tell you

  3. I'm having this same issue also. I've talked to AT&T and Apple, no answers from either, but Apple did say they would take a look at it and replace the phone if necessary. I usually get the call to go through on the third or fourth try, and it does usually happen when I first wake the phone. But waiting a while is not an acceptable answer. I should be able to pick up my phone and make a call, not sit and wait while it warms up.

  4. Your still under warranty with your phone. Just contact Apple support, they will advise you on the next step.
