Im looking to buy my first digital SLR, and ive been researching and looking around places for ages to see what looks best for me and ive finally set my sights on the Canon 400D.

Just wanted to ask the people who know a few questions ... :

What would be the best lens to capture sports pictures .. especially being at a cricket match ?

Where is the best most reliable and cheap place that i could find the 400D? I already have a canon film SLR, which is why i decided to stick with canon. This camera has a 28 - 80mm lens ... is it best for me just to buy the body of the 400D and not bother with a lens as i already have this one ?

Any other tips on general information on the camera would be appreciated =)

Cheers

  1. Amazon.com generally has pretty good prices, but judging from the fact that you refer to the 400D (it's called the Rebel XTi in the US) and that you go to cricket matches, I'd guess you're not from around here. I believe the 400D is being replaced by the 1000D (Rebel XS), so you may find the 400D at closeout prices. If your 28-80 is decent, you could just buy a body. The current kit lens is a stabilized (IS) 18-55mm, with a 55-250mm IS sometimes offered as a second lens. The old non-IS 18-55 doesn't have such a hot reputation, and some of the new ones appear to have autofocus problems. Good luck.

  2. There is a new canon camera which has just come out which seems like the kind of thing you are looking for....it is the canon 1000d and is a entry level dslr and has pretty decent specs...this seems cheaper than the 400d  as it costs about £400 (just search the net for the best price) with the lens 9so itll cost less for just the body) and the 400d cost alot more when it originally came out...for taking sports pictures you want a long lens to get close up shots so something like 70-300m or higher...For freezing action use a high shutter speed which is about 1/250 and an appropriate aperture depending on what depth of field you want...just practice to see what results you get and to achieve the shots you want...hope this helps..
