Canon 450D Brand new, just

Canon 450D Brand new, just got it out of the box and I keep getting Err 99 when I try to shoot. Haven't managed to take any photos yet. I tried 2 different memory cards, cleaned the small gold connector bits in the lens and the camera, took the battery out etc, nothing seems to work
