Canon 450D v Olympus E510?

I know the specifications, and I know this can be very subjective, I am also going to go and have a play with the Canon at my local shop, but I still would like to hear your comments (The best question will be something I havent considered:

I have an Olympus E510, 14-52mm F2.8, 70-300mm F4 and enjoy using this kit. I wondered whether I would get better pictures from the :

Canon 450D, 18-55mm F3.5, Tokina 100-300mm which I could get for reasonable money.

I have had the olympus kit for around 8 months, and find it great for someone just one step-up for novice, and have had some really good shots.

There is so much hype about the disadvantages of the 4/3 system that its hard not to wonder 'would I do better with the Canon"

  1. Hi,

I found some good reviews on the camera thta you might like:

    and

Maybe you can make up your own mind but I read that the Canon is the better one.

    Hope it helps!

  2. It could be much better with any ASP-C sensored camera ... Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Fujifilm or other.

It could be MUCH better if you were to buy a Nikon D3 or D700 or a Canon 1Ds Mark III or 5D ... they are full frame cameras vs. your Olympus which is half the size.

That said, unless your are going to be shooting as a pro in the next few months, hone you photographic skills using you fine E-510 with the lenses you have.   Once you have been able to achieve excellent images, nearly every time you press the cameras shutter release, then take another look at the available DSLR's on the market and then make your switch ... don't get stuck on a camera maker like "Nikon" or "Canon" or "Pentax" or "Fujifilm", just because of what someone said or you read once someplace ... this is going to be the camera system you will be using for years if not decades ... Spend your money wisely.

  3. Agreed with above.

Why not stick with your Oly?  It's a good camera.

Forget the hype and maybe invest in a really nice lens.
