Question:

Canon A580 Powershot Digital Camera?

Hello

I wanted to get my daughter a basic digital camera and have been looking at the Canon A580. It is on the cheaper side, which I prefer at this point.

I wanted to hear the pro's and con's from people who have used this camera before.

As well, I know it does not have image stabilization, so I wonder if the photos turn out blurry? And how it does in low light?

Any feedback you have on the camera would be great.

Thank you!

  1. its a great camera. Although I've never had it, I have used it alot at work.  Its sturdy, small, and compact.  Its a great starter camera.

The pros is cost, decent optical/digital zoom.

The cons is dated, larger than other compact cameras.

  2. I don't know the A580 well, but thought I'd chime in with this...

We wanted a simple camera for my daughter a few years ago, and we ended up getting one of the Kodak Sure-Shots.  They do a nice job and they're very very simple to use.  Inexpensive.  And depending on which one you get, you get actually get a lot of photo for your dollar.

On cameras in general, I am a huge Nikon fan myself.  (Just bought a D300, which is awesome)   It's my third Nikon purchase in my life.

  3. Well, I have the powershot sd600 and love it! You really can't go wrong with any of the powershots, IMHO :)

  4. Hello.

I have the Canon A-590IS. It is a very good camera for the price $179. Here is what I like.......

    1. It has an easy mode,so if I lend it out there is no real training on the camera.

    2. It uses AA batteries you won't get stuck with a dead camera! 7-11 at 3am has them.

    3. It has a view finder. If your LCD screen ever breaks you still have a working camera

    4. It has a 4x zoom most compacts have a 3x.

    5. Takes a good picture

    6. It has an image stabilized lens. Not digital stabilization wich is inferior.

    What I don't like.

    1. In low light with out the flash pictures are noisy "grainy". But all compacts have this problem so you have to use the flash.

2.The body is plastic and feels cheap but it is a $179.

In conclusion I am happy with mine,I have 5 camera's and it has earned my respect. Buy 4 AArechargeable batteries and a charger arount $20. regular AA's will last about 20 minutes! Also atleast a 1GB SD card. The batteries and card will fit many camera's so your next one look for that feature.

Also a $5 padded case most camera's meet there demise from being dropped, this may save it. Also use the wrist strap.
