I recently bought A720IS digital camera.I was only able to shoot up to 5 photos(memory card full message). Is it because the recording pixels/compression was selected at L. What should be the compression selection for normal pictures. Thanks for replying

  1. It's because your camera only comes with a small 16mb starter card, which is obviously the card you are using.

You need to purchase a larger card.  A 1 GB card will sell for about $20 and will hold hundreds of photos, even at superfine compression and L size.  You want that setting for normal photos anyway, because it gives the highest quality.

    So, get a bigger card!

  2. Oh, there's nothing you can do about that..

it comes with a very small memory card, which is usually only 16MB, which can only record an average of six pictures, which isn't that much at all. When they give you that little memory card, it's not intended to me the main one, it's meant to give you an idea of what the camera can do. Unless you only want to be able to take six pictures, you have to get a larger card, don't worry, that aren't that expensive ( at all ).

for your camera, you should get a high-capacity card, so you don't have to constantly be putting your pictures on the computer or printing them in a desperate attempt to make more space, you can literally take thousands of pictures, and have absolutely nothing happen to them.

You should really get a a one gigabyte card or a two gigabyte card, you can take hundreds of pictures instead of being restricted to six, which much really suck by the way.

oh, and keep the size at large, so you can print pictures, if you have it at small, you won't be able to print recognizable pictures. The small is for like buddy icons, trust me, you should keep the camera's image size at " L " which means large.

  3. The cameras today come with a very small card,

    get a LARGE one,

That camera will take a 2MB, which will last you a long time.

You can probably even use a 4MB?

    They're cheap these days.

And like Ace said, leave it at the L setting, so you get the most info on the card.

Then, you can play around, zoom etc, with the photos later, in your computer, if you want.

  4. Try formatting the card in the camera after you have transferred the pics to the computer and they are safe. Sometimes computer systems will write stuff to the card and use up its memory. Vista does this with readyboost with cards over 2 gig. You should always format in the camera rather than the coputer.

As others have said, your card may be too small. But putting the image quality lower will just disappoint you when it comes time to view the pics on the computer or print them at any size larger than a wallet. Get a good card with a good amount of memory, 2 gig or more.

Avoid generic names with cards. I bought a generic 2 gig card that didnt have even a gig available. I apparently got what I paid for.

  5. What size memory card are you using?

At the current cost of SD/SDHC memory cards (4GB for under $25), you should have at least one card that size.

Leave your image resolution at the highest resolution the camera will support.  That way you have the most choices when you start printing your favorite shots.
