Canon BJC 1000sp Printer - Internal spindle...

Question

canon bjc1000sp printer - one of the internal white spindles fell off - the one that pushes the paper feeder back to allow a new sheet to feed in. Nothing is broken as I've taken the casing off the printer but I can't work out which position it should be reinserted to to get the machine working again PS does the casing have to put back in place before the printer will work again. Any help appreciated
