Canon BJC 4200 not working

Question

My canon bjc4200 has stopped working.
The ink cartridge does not return to the parking position on the left hand side when the printer is switched off or on, although it does move backwards and forwards during both these actions before coming to rest in the middle. Attempting to print anything, including a test page with the printer disconnected from the computer results in nothing.
Any advice would be much appreciated
