Canon EOS 400D Vivitar 2800 Flash

I recently bought my first DSLR, a Canon EOS 400D. However, while I am paying it off and trying to do a few shoots in between, I cannot afford a Canon Speedlight yet (I have my eye on the 430EX).

My question is, although the Vivitar flash mentioned above works with the 400D, can it cause any long-term damage to the camera?

  1. IF the trigger voltage of the Vivitar 2800 is less than 6v your camera is in good shape.  Over 6v you run the risk of damaging the electronics on your 400D

  2. If the trigger voltage for the Vivitar 2800 is too high you'll need the WEIN "Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe Safe Sync" to protect your camera.
