In the Menu screen, there is an option to shoot six different image sizes: S, M, L, with a smooth and S, M, L with a jagged icon.. what does that mean..? whats the difference? I knowo the difference b/t SML is hte pixel size, but what about the different icons?

Also, what is the minimum pixel size if I want to develop a high quality 4x6 print?

  1. Small [S] would still produce nice 4x6 images, but how do you know that you will not take a photo that you may want to  make larger?

The best way to capture images  is to set your camera at its highest resolution ... you can always reduce the image resolution later, but you can never increase it.

With 2 packs of 2GB cards costing under $20, there is really no good reason to shoot using your fine Rebel camera as if it was an expensive P&S camera.  If your goal was to make 4x6 images, you could have saved yourself a lot of money and bought a camera with a smaller sensor.

  2. With the Jagged icon, it means higher compression. You'll get more photos saved on a memory card--but it won't be as clear as one with less compression (or better yet, in RAW mode).  If it's one of those shots in a life time, I would not use it. Actually, I don't use the JPG mode at all--only RAW. It requires post processing (using the computer to edit them by hand), but I'm pretty happy with the results. http://www.flickr.com/little_pooky

This is all in the manual. If you don't have access to it, their website has one you can download at http://www.canoneos.com
