I have an old canon film camera, i don't know what model it is, but it's probably about 3-4 years old, hardly ever been used, it has one of those attachable zoom lens things, anyway, i want to get rid of it, where is a good place in london to get a price for it, and please don't tell me to put on ebay, i need to find out how much it is worth first before i think of selling it!!

many thanks.

  1. If its 3-4 year old then it's bound to be a 35mm model.

Unfortunately the market is pretty much dead.   Sorry if this disapoints.

If it is a higher end model like an EOS 3 or an EOS 1v then you should be able to get between £150-£350 for it, (£150 for the 3, £350 for a 1VHS) in a private sale.

You could expect about half that sold to a shop. To put it in context the EOS 3 sold for £800 new, the EOS 1VHS £1400.

If you have a lesser model (like a 30 30v 33 33v 300 300v 300x 3000 3000v) then you WILL be insulted by what you would get offered for it as a trade in.

Folk want digital these days.  Everybody else is also trying to sell their film gear.... so it's far from a sellers market.

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but it is the truth.

  2. Trust me it is not worth very much. I have one as well and I checked the prices and they are not worth hardly anything nowdays

  3. without knowing what model it is, and with your vague description, it is hard to tell. Is it a compact? an SLR? is it plastic or metal? is it APS or 35mm?

film cameras arent really worth much, but if it's an EOS SLR, the lenses can be used with digital EOSes.

  4. With the ongoing trend towards digital cameras, and the 'built-in' obsolescence (it's old technology as soon as you start to use it) it's a fair guess that your film camera has little use to anyone other than a Canon collector.

I still have a couple of Canons dating back to the late 70's, but because they still work, I can still take pics with them, and they have become collector's items. The model name or number is usually printed on the right side (as you look at the front of the body).

It's doubtful that you would get much for it, and as one answerer says, you might be insulted at what the shops would offer.

As for eBay, you probably wouldn't do any better.

  5. Look on eBay at completed auctions for your camera make and model, that should give you a good price guide as to what people are prepared to pay for it.
