  2. virtually any consumer tripod will hold the camera. you do need to be sure that the top of the tripod (called the head) is designed for video and not still camera use.  a video head comes with a long control arm which gives you good leverage to make smooth moves while the camera is shooting. a video head also has a drag system of which fluid is the most common, to help smooth out those pan shots.
