  1. What environment will you be in? If loud noises (bands, airplanes, loud motors at races, etc.) or high altitude, hard drive based camcorders are not a good idea because they cannot deal with vibration or high altitude (higher than ~9500 feet).

I think both of these camcorders also capture high definition using a very highly compressed MTS or MT2S file type called AVCHD. Since you did not tell us what you would be editing with, it is difficult to know if it will be "easy" for you.

If you want best available video quality, do not compress so much at the first step - HDV provides best available quality due to least compression and the digital video is stored on miniDV tape.

Try the Canon HV30 or Sony HDR-HC9 instead.

  2. Sony SR10 by far, of course my answer doesn't seem reliable but I have already answered such kind like a million times so far. So I don't feel like explaining fully again....  Meaning that I'll keep this short.

So the Sony SR10 is released the latest, so has more features.

It has True HD, instead of the Canon HG10 which has an upscaler to make it look True HD, though both film in Full HD.

With the Sony you'll have a bigger sensor, meaning a little better quality and a lot more low-light performance quality....

The Sony SR10 has a Face-Detector, making the faces spotted on the screen (up to 8) to be more vibrant-colorful, and to make smoother and more detailed picture.

It's just also from Sony, best quality of all and has clever ideas, plus has an advantage over the others.

Not to mention, the Sony SR10 has a 'Carl Ziess' Lens, which Sony ownes, it's the best lense and other contrivertal-menchancise companies, such as Panasonic and Canon, don't have the granted permission to use the Carl Zeiss lens, nor do they know the specification or how-to make it....

!!!Trust me, take the SR10 from Sony now!
