I am buying a new HD camcorder. It will be a Canon brand. Which out of the two models is better?

Canon HV30 vs. Canon HG10.

I do know the Canon HG10 has a bigger censor which helps but the HV30 has supported playback modes.

You decide.

  1. From personal experience, I recommend you buy the HV30.

The HG10 is a brilliant camera for pointing and shooting, but not if you plan on doing a lot of editing. The HG10's codec (AVCHD) is simply a pain to work with because there's barely any software that can support it, and it's a major system eater. Also the HV30 has a bit more features such as zebra stripes, 30p, audio level meters, and better manual controls.

Both produce a beautiful image, but I guess it really depends on what exactly you're trying to do. For casual recording the HG10 is great. But if you're planning on doing anything on a professional level, go for the HV30.
