I have the camera listed above, my dilemma is that i don't have the cord to connect it to teh computer, so basically i can't post any of my videos on youtube or anything.

So I ask, does anyone know where I could buy a cord for it? or where i might be able to find one?

  1. The Canon ZR80 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. Use a firewire cable to connect the camcorder's DV port to the computer's firewire 400 port. If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can install one. USB will not work.

Firewire, IEEE1394a, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.

The camcorder DV port is always 4-pin. Whether the computer's firewire port uses 4-pin or 6-pin depends on what is already on the computer or what you install.

Here is the ZR80's product page

Download and read the manual. Refer to page 91.

No, a USB to firewire converter/adapter will not work.

No, video recorded to the memory card will not be as good as that which is recorded to miniDV tape - MiniDV tape provide best available video. Copying the video from the tape to the memory card will result in degraded video, too.
