Canon PC981 Copier Print issue

Question

Machine is a Canon PC 981 Copier.
The problem is that when some cartridges are put in it starts printing darker. The copier has an automatic setting where it is supposed to adjust the dark/light based on what it sees on the paper. Can manually adjust to get it right, but wastes copies each time doing that.
Is there some sort of re-set option? Or is there anything else you can suggest?
