I am thinking of purchasing this camera. I have read about 100 reviews and about 95% are very positive. What I like most about the features is the built in red eye reduction. But I am wondering if it really works because I HATE redeyes! Does anybody have any pros or cons to say about this camera. I need one this weekend and I really need it to be user friendly. I have never owned a digital camera and have little experience with them.

  1. Yes, red eye removal really works. The a590 can do it automatically everytime you take a photo with flash, or set it so you can go in through a menu and do it for each photo.

Excellent choice of camera in those ranges.

The only negatives is flash recharge time can be occasionally long and they made the video 20fps instead of 30fps in its predecessor.  So if you're going to be shooting a lot of movies, take a look at the a570 on ebay.  The only downside about the a570 is it doesn't have auto red eye, only manual red eye (through a menu).

There's a photo of how well the red auto red eye works at the review below.

  2. I own 5 camera's. One of them is the A-590IS. In my opinion it is one of the best under $200 camera's out there. It has an easy mode so you don't have to be a pro to use it. And you can go into manual mode if you wish to get creative. You will want to buy 4 AA rechargeable batteries and a charger + a 1GB SD card. This will hold over 200 pictures. Also I highly recomend some type of padded case. Most digital camera's meet there demise from being dropped, this and always use the wrist strap. The manual that comes with it is ok but the print is rather small. My only real complaint is the plastic body feels cheap. But at this price I can't really expect anything more.
