Hello! I got a old Canon Powershot A520, and I just buy a 4 gig Kingston memory SD memory card, and the camera doesn't support more than 256mb ( I think) Someone know how to update the firmware and where can I find it?

  1. not possible

  2. Your camera does not support high capacity SD (SDHC) memory cards. So, you will need to buy a smaller capacity SD card.

The A520 can definitely support a larger card than 256MB, so if I were you, I would buy a couple of 512MB cards instead. Each 512MB will allow up to 237 Large/Superfine images.

Make sure you format any new card before you use it...

  3. I believe that you might be able to find firmware updates at Canon's website, though I'm not sure.  Usually, outdated updates are removed from camera manufacturer websites with newer updates, and you can't go, from, for example, 1.0 to 1.5 without having 1.1, 1.2 etc.

  4. Don't think you will find any software to allow a 4GB SD card for your camera.  I use the SanDisk SD 256 mb and it works really well.  It is actually better to use a smaller SD because it processes faster and cost less.  At a 3 mega pixel setting, was able to take 251 pictures with a 256 mb SD. You should be able to take the 4GB card back and exchange for several 256 mb cards.

The following information should help make your batteries work better in the camera.

The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.

Digital cameras require lots of power.  If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly.  Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good.  The LCD display is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy.  With bad contacts, cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.
