Question:

Canon Powershot S5 IS vs Fuji Finepix s9100?

After about a week of research I have narrow down my search to two cameras:

Canon Powershot S5 IS

Fujifilm's Finepix S9100

Price is *not* a consideration to pick between the two .

My needs are:

- panaraoma (landscape snaps)

- neat videos (don't want to invest in a camcorder)

- great response time (especially for wildlife photography)

- play around the manuals and get creative

This will be my first big major camera . I have been using a compact point and shoot.

Looking forward to your advice.

  1. I'm not familiar with the S9100 (I have an S5), but it looks like a decent camera.  The S5 will meet your criteria.  It has a widescreen mode as well as a photostitching mode that in combination with some software will allow you to piece together photos to create a panorama.  The video capability is quite good.  You can zoom while capturing video as well as take a photo while recording, though it will cause a hiccup in the video.  There is a dedicated video recording button on the S5, so you can quickly punch the button and grab video in an instant.  The S5 also has stereo microphones.

Not sure how the S5 compares with the S9100, but I can tell you the S5 is definitely worthy of consideration.

  2. I pick Fuji over Canon.
