Help! I've had a Canon Powershot SD600 for about 6 months, and it has worked absolutley fine on my 6400 with Windows Vista Basic. Now it doesn't even work! When i connect the camera with a usb to the camera (which always worked), now the computer has no signs that a camera is even connected! No sound, or anything at all! I even downloaded the updated drivers! When the camera is fully hooked up and recognizable, the screen on the camera goes black. whic hmeans it's connecting. It works on my dell desktop, but then that computer lags so much. I can't even use it anymore. The computer is very low quality. But when the camera is connected to my vista inspiron 6400 now it doesn't work! When the cam is connected to the laptop, it doesn't even show up under my computer. --; Any or all advice would be most welcome! Thank you!

  1. There are two fixes... The first is fairly complex.  It requires you to go edit your registry to fully clean out all the driver references and then reinstall the driver.  The second is to buy a card reader for your memory card.  A card reader isn't expensive and it is always straight up plug-and-play.  Plus, you'll be able to save the camera battery by not having to have it on when you want to transfer your pictures.

I'm not going to list the steps for the first, because that is something you should know how to do if you are comfortable with editing the registry.  That is why I will highly recommend you do the second fix and buy a card reader.
