  1. If I am reading your question right.... You WANT the shutter lag to occur?   Will not happen.  When you press the shutter button... the shutter is going to trip.  But there is an alternative...   You could get a remote and then stand away from the camera to set off the shutter whenever you want it to go off.   Or set the shutter to TIME... but I really think that is automatically set to 10 seconds.   Any help?   Thanks for reading.

  2. Since I dont know which Rebel your talking about I will be a little vague but you should be able to figure it out.

You can do a 2 second shutter delay. Delay is intentional, lag is not and is annoying as all heck. Find the custom functions menu. Find the custom function called 'Mirror Lockup' and activate it (set to 1). Now put the camera in timed mode. The symbol looks like a circle with a line coming from the center to the edge (it's supposed to look like a minute hand on a clock but I dont think the art work matches that image). Now, you should have a 2 second delay instead of a 10 second one.

The only one I am not certain that this works on is the original 6mp Digital Rebel (300D). The other Rebels this should work on.

  3. Sure, just turn off auto-focus, which is actually what is causing the "lag" and not the shutter.  If you turn off automatic focus, when you press the button the shutter will just trip.  Of course, you then need to ensure you are in focus.

The other option is pre-focus your subject with auto-focus, once in place, wait for whatever you are looking for to happen or come by, if you are pre-focused, again the shutter will just trip with no discernible delay.

  4. you should be able to either set the iso and aperture so that the correct exposure reads at 1sec or use the "bulb" function
