Canon Rebel XS or Nikon D40??

Question

Our local electronic store is selling the Nikon D40 for 432 $ (special holiday sale), and it's the cheapest i've seen so far here in Canada. But i've been reading about the specs of the new Canon XS and would kinda prefer to stick with Canon lens since they are easier to find and generally a little cheaper than Nikon lens. My question, does anyone know when the Canon XS will be out in store and how much cheaper will it be compared to the XSi ? Because if the price is in the same range as the current XTi (about 200$ more than the D40), then i wont wait to get the Canon XS and would get the D40 now.

The EOS XS is a 35mm Film Camera, according to my minimal research. I Think you mean the canon eos rebel xsi, and that's what you want to compare the rebel xsi and the nikon d40 camera, am i right ?

You should get the canon eos rebel xsi, it's a much better camera, it has much more megapixels, a larger screen, and live view, none of which are found on the nikon d40. The rebel xsi is by far a much better camera, and you really can't compare them. The rebel xsi is much better, there's no comparison.
