Canon Scanner FB630U

Question

i recently got a second hand scanner but unfortunatley dont have the software to get it started. It doesnt show any signs of power being connected, although it is connected via the usb cable to my pc.
i did down load a driver from the canon webiste, but no luck so far. where have i gone wrong?
