Question:

Canon Speedlite 430EX or Canon EF 50mm f/1.8?

So, i've earned $200 and I really want to buy an external flash or a nifty fifty (one or the other). I really want an external flash cause I take a lot of indoor shots and the flash on my camera is a bit too harsh. I really want a EF 50mm 1.8 lens mostly cause i've been hearing good reviews and is pretty cheap... (also works great on indoor shots). What should I get?

  1. Get the external flash. It will dramatically improve the look of your pictures.

The nifty fifty is a great lens but it hunts for focus.

Get the flash first. It won't take you long to save up the money for a 50mm 1.8

  2. Buy the flash and an off-camera bracket to mount it on.

    Save for a 50mm f1.4 lens. You'll be much happier with a 1.4 than 1.8

  3. I would go with the external flash. I can do so much more since I got mine... I have the 580EX II, but the 430EX is pretty good too!

I'm not too amused by the 50mm f/1.8... save up for the 50mm f/1.4.
