Question:

Canon XT and lens choice.?

Im an amateur photographer & I want to spend my money wisely :-)

I have the canon XT with the following:

Canon 18-55

Canon 50mm f/1.8

Canon 70-200 f/4 L.

I love the picture quality I get with my 50mm lens for family-get-togethers and I realize that in order to get a Canon quality lens I have to spend some serious $$.

(I mainly use my 70-200 for sports)

My choices are:

I can spend around $400.00 for the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

or save up for a good quality lens like the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM.

Does do the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM work with my Canon XT ?

.......and is it worth spending around $1200.00 for this lens ?

Thanks again.

  1. I started off with cheaper lenses until I became more demanding and had to save up for the better ones.

Now, my EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM practically lives on the camera, it is the lens I choose if I can't or don't want to carry others.

The f/2.8 is wonderful, as is the quality.

Yes, it is a big chunk of money, but you can't help but love it  :-)

  2. Yes, the EF 24-70mm will work with your XT. All EF and EF-S lenses will.

Should you get it? Depends on how badly you want that extra quality. I have the 28-135 and it is a great lens. However that 2.8 throughout the whole range would be nice. I'm sure there is at least a little bit of image quality improvement too. Is it worth $1200? That's up to you. It wouldn't be to me.

it's helped me make a lot of my lens decisions.
