Hi, I own a Canon ZR25MC video camera and it used DV cassette's for video. I found its cord that goes from the camera to the PC into a firewire socket. When I plug it in nothing happends. Am I missing some sort of program? Im using Windows Vista Home and I seriously cant remember where I put the disks it came with. Can someone point me in the right direction? Ill choose best answer to the person who helps me :) Please help.

  1. I can probably help... but it could be a lot of things..

If you lost it, the owners manual is here..

Your PC should at least react when you plug it in.. even if you have no drivers or software to run the device.

I'm assuming you know this... but the PC won't recognize the device if it is not powered on. Is it?

Is it your firewire card or it's drivers? Can you try plugging something else into it?

Give me more info and I'll do my best to help you with this!.

  2. The camcorder should be switched to Play, but plug it in first - you can momentarily get the pins in the wrong place as you plug it in. The firewire driver should be part of Vista, though the mobo might be supplied with one.  I'd check that firewire is enabled in the BIOS.  If it is, try this:-

Go into Device Manager (Control Panel / System / Hardware)

Expand the IEEE1394 Bus host controllers, right click on your  device and uninstall it.  If it's not there to start with, you've got a problem!

    Shut down your PC.

Connect the camcorder, switch it to play and reboot your PC.  You should see messages coming up as the card and then the camcorder are detected.

  3. Try to capture the video thru a video editing app...

entry-level Movie Maker* (bundled w/ Vista/wmm6 & XP/wmm2) is simple & easy to learn. Upgrade to intermediate (or advanced) video editing apps accdg. to need & skill level
