Ok, so I was out looking for a good camcorder to make good quality videos for myself and friends to share and what not... and I was wondering if anyone who has this model or a similar model or any other professional out there... knows if this model would convert to Windows Movie Maker format? I know WMM sucks but I'm just wondering?

I've also thought about buying Sony Vegas Movie Studio so I'll get that if I need a better movie editing program.

But are you happy with your Canon ZR900(or similar)??

PS: Does it have an SD card or is it all MiniDV?

  1. The Canon ZR900 is a miniDV based camcorder.

Transferring video from the camcorder's miniDV tape to computer uses Firewire (also known as IEEE1394a and i.Link). Once you have a working Firewire400 port working on your computer and connect the DV port on the camcorder to the computer's firewire port with a firewire cable, it "just works". In MovieMaker, you "Capture" the video from the camcorder.

If you have feature questions about the camcorder, how about downloading the manual and reading through it?

If it does use a memory card, it would be used only for stills.

  2. I shoot weddings, Home Inventories and Video Biographys  with Canon cameras, the ZR 500 and ZR 800.  They take excellent video and use the best storage format,  miniDV tapes.  If you are going to start editing, that is the best option for you.  Sony Vegas would be a better system that WMM, as no file conversion would be necessary.
