I just got a new Canon ZR950 Mini-DV Camcorder for my birthday. I did not have a firewire port on my Windows Vista Home Premium laptop, so I went and bought a firewire 6-pin card with two ports for my laptop, along with a 4pin to 6 pin cable.

Vista won't even see my camcorder, yet the camcorder says DV-IN. I've tried it on two other firewire computers (XP) and it worked fine. I've tried the card on another laptop and it worked fine. I've tried everything else, and it isn't listed in the Device Manager. Please help me out!!!

I couldn't find the answer anywhere online :(

  1. The issue is with Vista, that dang OS is still driving everybody crazy, go to the firewire card website and see if there is a vista compatible driver. Vista seems to have a problem with firewire.

  2. Yu are missing the firewire drivers on the Vista machine. Get those, and the card listed in the device manager, and you'll be fine. The card manufacturer should have the Vista drivers to download. If not, return it and find one that does.

Unless it is a Dynex, in which case you may continue to have problems.
