Canon camera and lenses?

I need to buy a new setup for wildlife and weddings both. Should I get the:

1.) canon 40d and 70-200 L 2.8 is lens cost: $2,513

or

2.) canon 5d and 300 prime L 2.8 is cost: $6,000

plus I would need the 70 - 200 2.8 is L also for an additional $1500 for a total of $7500

The second option only gives me an extra zoom range of 100mm which I don't need if I get the 40d body because it would give me good range with option number one.

The difference in cost is about $5000 but what do I get for that if anything???

I need great detail to sell but most prints are 8x10 anyway.

Which is best?

  1. You get a lot for that $5000 extra.  First, with the 300 f/2.8L you can easily add the EF Extender 1.4x or 2x and have some super-telephoto capabilities.  The Canon EF Extenders preserve the image quality of the lens it is attached to.  The 5D also performs better in lower light.

If you've got the money, don't even think about it.  Get option 2.
