How do you upload a video from your Canon digital camcorder onto a Windows computer?

  1. miniDV tape uses the DV port of the camcorder connected to the firewire port of the computer using a firewire cable to import video using the video application of your choice. Firewire, IEEE1394a, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing. USB won't work. MovieMaker does not understand HDV so you need to buy/install a video application that does. It handles DV just fine.

    Hard drive and flash memory typically use USB to copy files. Flash memory can also use a card reader.

    DVD based camcorder need to have the finalized DVD ripped with something like HandBrake
