  1. Check its system requirements.  Most cameras do work with the macs.

I personally like camera's tat shoot in .mov because my mac knows that well.

  2. The Canon HV20 is just a miniDV tape based camcorder. It connects to transfer video from the miniDV tape, like ALL miniDV tape based camcorders with its DV port.

In the case of the Apple Macintosh, you will need a 4-pin (camera DV port) to 6-pin (computer Firewire400 port) firewire/IEEE1394a/i.Link cable.

All Macintoshes of the last 7 years or so have included a firewire400 port as standard. The ONLY current Mac that does not have a firewire port is the new Mac Air.

The DV and HDV format video stored on the miniDV tape can be imported by iMovie HD going back to version 5 (2-3 years ago). FinalCut Express and FinalCut Pro have alse been able to edit DV and HDV for a number of years.

The USB cable and port will be used only for transferring stills from the memory card.

MiniDV continues to provide the BEST available video in DV and HDV format because they compress much less than any internal hard drive, flash memory or any other storage media used for consumer camcorders.
