Question:

Canon ip4500... Should I replace my black ink cartridge now or later?

I have a Canon ip4500 and every once in a while, it blinks a yellow light and the screen says "Replace the cartridge with the unlit lamp."

When I open the printer cover, the black ink cartridge is the one that is unlit. However, if I close the printer cover, it usually prints and the black ink is fine. So I've just been opening the printer cover and closing it again whenever I get this message, so that I can print my documents and photos.

Is it okay to do this until the ink completely runs out, or will it damage my printer somehow?
