Canon or Nikon lens?

ok, i am so confused as to whether get the Nikon d40 or Canon REbel XT/XTi as those are the cameras that my budget will allow me to buy. My question is , since i'm going to end up buying 1 or 2 more lens but could only get the affordable ones (under 400$), how do the Canon and Nikon lens compare when it comes to the cheapers ones? And which are easier to find?

The XTi might cost 200 $ more than the D40 but will i be saving more in the long run if i stick to Canon lens?

  1. Canon.

  2. What do you want the lenses to do?

For less than $250, you can get a Nikon 55-200mm VR (vibration reduction) telephoto zoon.

Nikon makes a great 18-200mm VR that Canon can't match.

Think of it this way, for the $200 difference, you get a Nikon 2-lens system or a Canon starter kit.

What you MUST consider is how the camera feels in your hands and how the menu, controls, and configuration match you, the user.

You want a camera that won't get in the way of your creativity.

  3. I use both Canon & Nikon. Without arguing about what is better, here are some photos http://www.flickr.com/little_pooky

Each one is marked with the lens used.

  4. Here

There are two cameras used by the professionals  Nikon and Canon ... both make exceptional lenses for their cameras.

The top of the line Nikon's are the AF-S, ED lenses

The top of the line Canon's are the USM, L lenses.

Both of those lenses are used by professionals because of their high quality glass and design and because of the rapid, quiet focus those lenses can produce under the stress of shooting action, sports or spot news.

Okay, that said, you are looking for an entry level DSLR.  At this time, the Nikon D40 with a AF-S 18-55mm ED lens provides the most bang for the buck.

Just forget about the Megapixel hype.

If you are still undecided after reading all the ideas, opinions and experience from others, go into a store that sells both the D40 and XTi and try them out using the same focal length lenses.  See which you like the best and fits in your hands the best.

  5. Canon fer sure.

  6. well, the canon xt is every bit as good as the xti so if you go that rought you will save money and the lenses are sold almost everywhere. nikon and canon lenses will run around the same price, but i have found that it is a bit easier to find the lenses for my canon than my nikon.
