I know it's a pretty old camera, but i think it's the best camera for my budget. Anyway, should i get it? I read pretty good reviews from it ff like dpreview and cnet, but i've read some comments by people that say that the pictures turn out noisy or too soft, and a handful of comments that stated that their camera didn't work anymore. Has anyone had personal experiences with this camera? and should i get ti? thanks

oh, and im gonna use for taking pictures of like flowers, scenery, night, and self-portraits

  1. I think a better option is the PowerShot A series cameras. I'd recommend something like A640, A630. These were made when the S3 came out. I think they are cheaper but just as good.

  2. The S3 is a fine camera and a lot of people still use it.  I have the S5, which is the current model of the S series.  About noise, it's an issue only when you go above ISO200.  So if you are shooting in situations with decent light, you shouldn't have to increase the ISO setting too much.  The S3 can take decent photos at night as well, provided you use a tripod and a long enough exposure time.  The S3's macro photography capability will be of use to you if you like to do close-ups of flowers.
