  1. I suppose there should be a slight clarification on this one:

you cannot add on lenses to the S3 IS (or any of Canon's S-series cameras). You can add on a telephoto converter (increases zoom by 1.5x) and a wide-angle converter. That, to the best of what I have seen, is about all you can really do. There is no ability to add on filters and such.

That said, I believe you'd be going with the lens adapter designed for the S3 IS (most likely that first one you mentioned).

Hope that helps you out some.

  2. First to answer your question. It looks like they both fit your camera. Out of the two, I'd recommend the 52mm because the filters will be cheaper. Filters I'd recommend are a polarizer and 6X cross. They offer cool effects.

Now my recommendation. Your camera is a good quality point and shoot and has many features. However, it really lacks the quality of those features over that of an SLR. For the cost of lens adapters and the lens kits themselves (which are sub par quality compared to an SLR) you would be much better off buying a low end SLR camera. If you look around online you should be able to find a Pentax or Nikon with an 18-55mm lens for under $500. You will thank yourself in the long run by doing this. You can get much better/accurate control over aperture and shutter speed.
