for ppl with rebel xti, when you shake your camera body gently, do you hear a piece that sounds like it's loose (on the inside) ? is that normal?

  1. There should be no rattling sounds in your camera ... if you have a IS lens attached, it is the IS lens element moving around.  When not in use, they are free floating.

What to do?  Don't shake your camera

  2. It could be a piece of the orientation sensor and it's normal if this is the case. You should hear a slight rattle in the grip. The information given by the sensor is used to rotate portrait images so they are displayed correctly when unloaded from the camera and to display images properly on the LCD when you rotate the camera.

Just test to see if everything is working properly and you should be fine.

Whoever gave me a thumbs down should probably defend his/her position because I surely know what I'm talking about. I know this stuff first hand but if there's any doubt here's a sample of what others know:

The orientation sensor DOES rattle and the rattling is present with MANY makes and models of DSLRs. The XTi DOES have an orientation sensor. Add one and one.
