I'm going to buy canon's rebel xTi in a few days, and it comes with 18-55mm lens. I'm just beginning to learn about photography and I'm not sure if that's a good lens? or should i buy the camera body and buy another lens seperately? any suggestions for which lens to buy? thanks!

  1. i agree, the 18-55 that comes with the canon is fine. the one thing you could get extra (as it's so cheap) is the 50mm 1.8 mk2

a good workhorse lens. great for street shooting :-) and gets you used to zooming with your feet :-)

  3. It seems that what you have learned is not about photography, but the opinions of others.

The 18-55 mm lens is a good lens for shooting about 80% of the subjects you will be shooting ... at least for the first few years.

The the realm of professional photography, Nikon and Canon are about the best made lenses in the world.  Yes, even the so called "kit" lenses.

  4. The 18-55mm lens is an excellent lens to learn on... many speak poorly of it, because they do not and have not taken the time to learn how to use it properly.  I'd say get the XTi with the kit lens, and supplement it with the Canon EF 50mm 1.8 .. a great first prime lens... it's rather inexpensive at about $80.00
