im looking at purchasing one of these cameras just as a smaller carry around because with two kids i need something easily accessible that doesnt take up space. i do know a thing or two about cameras im just having a hard time deciding between the two. im leaning more towards the canon because im more familiar with them and enjoy the quality i can get from them and i love the big screen on the back (i dont use a viewfinder). The only reason im considering the nikon s210 is because it features electronic stabilization - which i know isnt the same quality as optical but can be better than nothing in some situations. its also a more compact size. what do you think?

  1. I strongly urge you to spend a bit more for optical image stabilizer, such as Canon SD1100 (costs $30-40 more than SD750). Nikon S210 is equipped with a slower lens than Canon and although Nikon's eVR electronic stabilizer is better than most electronic variety, is a poor match for SD1100's true optical image stabilizer.

  2. Personally i'd go for the nikon s210. Nikons are really simple to use, and it does have image stabilization. Image stabilization doesn't lose quality, it just fixes an image if its blurred. Its the mega pixels that determines quality. Also, its optical zoom that you can use to zoom in, and this wont lose any quality, its digital zoom that loses quality, if you use this on your camera.

Most digital cameras have a standard of 3x optical zoom & maybe 4x digital zoom.

If i was to get a small pocket sized digital camera, with a big screen, i'd go for the 'ricoh r7'. It has 7x optical zoom & 4x digital zoom, so you can zoom into things from far away, its 8 mega pixels and has image stabilization. It also takes video as avi files, so its easier to put copy to dvd, if thats what you want to do. Most small cameras, use quicktime files, that you have to convert to avi, then put to dvd. All the reviews are good for the ricoh r7, and the ricoh r6 is much the same, just with one or 2 less features, and its cheaper. Check it out before you buy either of the 2 you want.
