Canon sd750 or sd1100?

I'm trying to figure out which camera is better for my money..the canon sd 750 (sale price of 179.99, reg = 199.99) or canon sd1100 (249.99)

I found this website with very in depth reviews of each.

750 - http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/sd750.html

1100 - http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_reviews/canon_sd1100.html

I was originally going to just go ahead and get the 750 even though it's only 7mp. It's on sale right now at Circuit C. for 179.99 and I love the 3" LCD screen. But it was brought to my attention that it DOES NOT have image stabilization which is a must needed feature that most of this year's models have.

On the other hand, the SD1100 only has a 2.5" LCD but is 8mp rather than 7 and it DOES have image stabilization.

The 750 is usually priced at 199.99. Do you think I should just go ahead and spend the extra money for 1 extra mp?

Or should I just go ahead and get the Sony Cybershot DSCW150?

Linda N,

I saw that you have a similar problem. E-mail me!

  1. Easy Enough...

    If You Need Image Stabilization..

    Get The SD750..

If You Like A 3" Screen And More Looks

    Get The SD1100

i mean, it depends on which one you want more, IS isn't all that necessary if you shoot outside, and whilst inside you can ues the flash modes on the camera. You don't need to use the image stabilization all of the time. If i were making the decision, i would get the SD750, it's a really great camera, and it looks better. Oh, and don't mind that whole it ' only ' has seven megapixels thing, that makes hardly a difference at all, the difference is too slim to consider in my opinion. Sure, the sd1100 has IS, but you don't need it that much.. I Would get the SD750, i've always liked that camera..

However, i wouldn't get it, because i use more professional cameras, but for the average, family photographer, that's a great camera with face detection techonologies.

  2. I wouldn't spend the additional money "for the extra MP" but I would spend it for the Image Stabilization which is far more important (especially when dealing with these ultra thin point and shoots) that that one extra megapixel, which you will not be able to tell the difference.

(I never recommend Sony, and their stupid proprietary MemoryStick using cameras)

  3. Here is the Dell coupon info for the SD1100. I tried it, and it works fine.

But, you are limited to 'Bohemian Brown' or some color like that for some reason. Amazon.com has all colors available for like $207 with free shipping and no sales tax - which Dell normally does charge to people buying stuff from their site. Just a thought.

  4. I think image stabilization is a great feature for cameras of this size.  Low weight + using the LCD to frame your pictures = relatively high chance of blur.

I think the SD1100 is a superior camera.  The 1 megapixel is essentially irrelevant, though.  The only disadvantage it has is that its wide angle (when you're zoomed all the way out) is not as wide as the 750's.  You probably won't notice it.

I personally stay away from Sonys, because the Memory Stick format is stupid.

The SD1100 can be had for $190 from Dell with a coupon code right now.  Google for "dell sd1100 deal" and you might find it.

  5. The SD1100 (Ixus 80) is the better camera. The extra megapixel won't make much difference, but the IS (image stabilization) will, especially in low light conditions.

It's high resolution 2.5" LCD screen is plenty big enough, plus it has an optical viewfinder, whereas the SD750, doesn't.
