  1. nikon d60

i'm very satisfied with it and nikons are known for their srls.

canon specializes with more than just cameras so nikon is more reliable and the d60's lenses have many more features like vibration reduction.

  2. You can't go wrong with either of them. The XTI costs slightly less than the D60.They both have the same MP's.I like Canon because thats what I use and I have been extremely satisfied with not only the cameras but I love their wide selection of lenses too.

Check out the available lenses that both companies offer that will mount to the camera you want.Someone above used Nikon's VR lenses as a selling point but Canon also has a wide variety of IS lenses. (IS is Canons term for VR )

You might even want to look at the Sony A 300.This camera has IS / VR built into the camera so that every lens you use on it becomes IS / VR.This is a big advantage Sony has over both Canon and Nikon.Canon and Nikon users have to shell out extra cash for the IS / VR lenses

You might want to check out B&H photo and you can compare the three cameras and check out the lenses too while you are there.  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

    Best of luck to you.

  3. Nikon D60 Compared to Canon EOS 400D / XTi

The earlier Nikon D40x was released to compete directly against Canon’s best-seller, and the new D60 continues that battle. Both cameras deliver roughly the same quality results, although the D60 has punchier output by default and its new kit lens is noticeably superior, not to mention boasting stabilisation. The D60 is also friendlier in operation, which will please first-time DSLR owners, although experienced photographers will prefer the Canon’s quicker access to settings like ISO and White Balance.

So far so close, but the Canon 400D / XTi boasts a much more sophisticated 9-point AF system and depth-of-field previews, along with greater compatibility with older or budget lenses; it also comes with RAW processing software. It all depends on your preferences, but the Canon is a technically more powerful camera and an average kit lens aside, is better-suited to enthusiasts. See our Canon EOS 400D / XTi review for more details.

    Nikon D60 Verdict:

    Good points

    Small, light and well-built.

Very easy to use with helpful menus.

    Virtually fool-proof metering.

Excellent DX 18-55mm VR kit lens option.

    Bad points

    No auto-focus with certain lenses.

Some settings require too many button presses.

    Anti-dust system not infallible.

Basic 3-point AF and no DOF preview.

  4. Personal user of Nikon D60 after studying XTi and some previous ones.. :-)

  5. You should go to a store and actually get your hands on both cameras. Canon and Nikon both make excellent cameras and you can't go wrong. You should try out which camera is easier for you to use and just feels right in your hands.

  6. I am partial to Canon's myself. I have always had good luck with them, (all they way back to an AE1 SLR). I have always found Nikon to be temperamental and not worth the extra money.
