  1. A direct connection between two systems will require a cross-over cable. If you do not wish to buy such a cable, then you will have to use a hub or a router (router is much easier).

After getting your crossover cable, you will most likely still need to apply additional network configurations such as workgroup names and IP addressing. (although APIPA may take care of any IP worries).

  2. You can't connect them directly using a standard ethernet cable. You either need a crossover cable or connect them through a router or switch.

  3. well that is kinda tricky, I have set up LAN with my cousin with our laptops through wireless... not quite sure about that using a wire...

    What OS do you have?

  4. As above get a crossover cable; normally a yellow cable (ebuyer.com, dabs.com, maplin.co.uk).

Or connect with firewire if they both have it, so you can connect to your router/modem with your lan.

You'll need to set a static IP for crossover, check it on wikipedia.

  5. u need a cross over ethernet cable or if you will need a router
