it. i got this computer from a friend so i don't have the disk to it can someone who knows about computers please help me fix it...

  2. Post the *exact* error message.  One letter could make a difference.

    Are you connecting the computer's ethernet port to your modem's ethernet port?  Do you have an internet connection (phone company, cable company, satellite, etc.)?
