Cant edit videos in sony vegas?

I sue sony vegas Pro 8.0 (the full version) and apparently you can edit avi files in it...but only the sound plays..no video at all...so i converted it using Divx and still no diferent, no video, only audio

can anyone help?

AVI isn't a video format, it's a file format.  The video in the file is encoded using a COder/DECoder (codec) and it sounds like you haven't got the right codec installed on your PC.  Vegas can handle wmv without any problems, so it looks like the conversion didn't work.  Try getting hold of GSpot and seeing what codec you need.
