  1. Do you mean the Recent Documents link? If that is the case, you can solve it by going into the Registry and changing a few settings.

    Follow this method:

    >> Click on Start and then go to Run

    >> Type regedit and press enter.

    >> On the left hand side in the new window, navigate to My Computer\HKEY_Current_user\software\Micr...

    >> Making sure you highlight Explorer, look at the right hand side, and find an entry called NoRecentDocsHistory.

    >> Double click on NoRecentDocsHistory and set it's value as 0 making sure hexadecimal is selected.

    >> click on OK.

    >> Close the Registry Editor window.

    When you restart, and later on start opening new documents, you'll be able to see recent documents appearing in the Start Menu.
