My man is wanting to start snorkling lessions. The problem is he cant float...at all. He is a very muscular person so they might be weighing him down making him sink. I have tried teaching him on his back and his stomach but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions.....

  1. he can also try the float you can do when you want to save your energy (i.g. waiting to be rescued you may do this) all you do is go in deep water and act like your standing (so you head is just popping out of the water) your head will stay afloat without moving a muscle you will notice if you exhale you can sink but when you  inhale you stay afloat he does not even need to move his arms..

  2. It is great that he is muscular so don't change that of course. Have him wear a thin, sleeveless wet suit. This will help him float and allow him to swim underwater too. A 1mm wetsuit should be good, there are many brands but I prefer O'Neil (pricy though). Consider Body Glove and other brands for less.

  3. I can't float either and I was a swimmer for 14 years.  I think some people just can't do it.  Make sure that he is relaxed.  And give him some fins, he shouldn't really have to float in order to snorkel.  Just make sure he keeps kicking.

  4. Theres not much you can do. Since you stated that he has a good amount of muscle mass. It is almost impossilbe for him to float. If you really want him to float. Tell him to slim down and go with cut bod.

  5. The product in the source may help.  There is also a similar product called Aqua Jogger.  They are available at sporting goods stores.  They run $25 - $35.

I assume that you want him to be able to spend most of his time on the surface, but be able to do shallow dives.  I would think that a life vest would be too buoyant.
