Cant get phone to work

hi
i just got a g88 and everything works well except for the phone
i cant seem to get any 'bars' and it is alwqays searching for the network
i have tried to set it up manually and it does come up with the option of my carrier, but if i try to make a call or sms, it tells me that the gsm is busy
