ok so i originally had one laptop and one desktop online. we also had a laptop that wouldnt connect it would just sit there and say aquiring network address. we also had another desktop that couldnt connect for completely different reasons. i eventually the got hte desktop working and online but now both of the laptops just sit there and say aquiring network address. the router says it can have tons of computers on it so why cant we seem to get a 3rd.

note: also there was one time before that we got the first laptop that wasnt working to work but then the other laptop that was working stopped.

we have a linksys router and i really dont know much about it and stuff.

and if you have an answer please say it in layman's terms

thanks

  1. First you need to use the web based log in to the router as described in its' manual. go to the LAN page and check that it has dhcp enabled, set to a lease time of 28 days, and with a few more addresses available than you have machines. So if you have 4 machines and the first address assigned is 192.168.1.3, your last address should be 192.168.1.10 or similar. You must also ensure that you have NO machines set for manual IP addresses in their tcp/ip configuration.

  2. The easiest solution if you don't really understand what you're doing is to call Linksys.  They're trained specifically to help people regardless of their technical skill and can help you much easier than anyone here could hope to via Q&A.

  3. first of all remove all the wireless security that may be on

    shut down all the computers

turn one on and go to the cmd prompt, type "ipconfig /renew"

can you get on the internet? if yes go to the next computer and do the same thing and so on.  If no you have something either on the router configured or on the pc.
