Cant join games on Xbox 360?

Like on GTA 4 i cant join peoples games online i can hear them talking then then my screen goes disconnected from game session returning to single player. And on COD4 i cant join games either. All my other games are fine, Gears of War, Orange Box, etc. Ever since i installed the updates on these two its fucked me over and i want to play my games!
