  1. hamster

  2. I have a friend who has a rat that she really likes& she used to have a hamster and she is always telling me how much better rats are than hamsters so I would go with a RAT!!!

  3. You should get a hamster they r cuter & they can learn to come by name. Also if you give them lot's of love the they will be very close to you. And hamsters & rats r about the same in kindness.

  4. HAMSTERS OF COURSE! Rats will bite you and there p**p smells horrible!!! got anymore questions email me at hamsterinfo101@yahoo.com

  5. RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS!

  6. You should get a rabbit! Rabbits are very friendly and loving. And much more affectionate that guinea pigs and rats who dont adore people as much

  7. I've had both and have found that my rats bonded quicker than the hammies did. But with rats you really should be willing to give daily time out of the cage with you, as with a hamster you don't always need to do so.

  8. Rats are far more socialble and seem to enjoy being around people more. They are less prone to bite than hamsters.

Hamsters are VERY nearsighted and tend to be neurotic defensive lil fuzzy razorblades. Ok, I may exaggerating a little bit. They do not tend to like to be handled overly much and would be happiest if left in their habit trail. (As always there are exceptions)

  9. Having owned both I'd have to say rat. You just can't beat rats when it comes to a social, affectionate small pet. Well, I can't say that for sure as I haven't owned /all/ the small pets :). Rats definitely bond quicker, easier, and more strongly with their owners than hamsters.

Just remember that while hamsters need to be kept alone, rats need to be kept in same s*x pairs or groups lest they get lonely.

As for males or females that is a choice of preference. Males have a little more odor, scent mark more, and have large testicles (which puts some people off) but also tend to become lazier and more laid back as they grow up, more inclined to be lap rats. Females tend to remain active and inquisitive even when they hit adulthood, but are also more prone to benign mammary tumors later in life if not spayed.

  10. rats definately bond with people more!!! they are sooo affectionate. My friend has a hamster, and i have two rats. She actually kind of regrets getting a hamster when she played with my rats. She still loves it, but she wants a smarter and friendlier pet. Rats are really intelligent, you can train them tricks and stuff, and they really want human contact, most of them at least. Just get two of them, cause they need a companion.

  11. I have 4 rats and a hamster and I like my rats more they don't bite and they love to come out and play but if you are looking for low maintence then you should go with the hamster rat cages need to be cleaned every few weeks if you get males.
