This is for figure-skaters.

I've done my one-foot spin but I've been deffintaly struggling. I need to go around at least 6 times but my balance is all off on my foot. I keep leaning back and forth, mainly to far forward

Any advice or excersizes i could do to improve this?

  1. I been a figure skater for awhile and r up 2 flying spins like flying sit and camel.

Make sure you dont spin on your heel because that will slow your spin down and down spin on ur toe-pick because it will just get stuck in the ice and u wont b able 2 spin.. towards the front of ur blade there is a spot for spinning and the spot where u spin s between the toe-picks and  the middle of the blade it is a little rounded and u shud b able 2 spin on that part

  2. do 1 back cross-over (opposite the way you spin)

step in and spin the other way.....

... your arms need to be out your free foot out to the side. Do not turn it in.

  3. Work on beginning one-foot spins from a pivot entrance.   Be sure to give yourself a big push in your pivot...not just with your foot, but use your arms also to "fling" yourself into the spin.  The added speed will help you increase your revolutions and sometimes make it easier to hold your position.  Sometimes its hard to get the feel of being on the right part of your blade to keep spinning.  Try staying towards the ball of your foot....not too high on your toe pick and be very careful not to lean back.  Think of yourself as a puppet on a string.  If the string is pulled up, your body will stand up straight.  Keep your shoulders and hips level and square (lined up).  Usually skaters will raise the hip of their free foot, sending them whirling off into space.  Practice one-foot glides to help you get comfortable with the weight transfer for the spin.  Your weight will be over your spinning foot.  If your weight is still centered, you will tend to put your free foot down in your spin.  It might sound silly, but you can practice your spins at home on a smooth floor with socks on....all skaters do it.  :)  Good luck....I hope that spin comes for you!

  4. Just keep practicing! U should try to think in your mind about leaning up against a wall and then u won't go back and fourth.

  5. alotta ppl have problems with the same thing, right b4 u go into ur spin, bend ur knees and straighten them as u spin.

  6. try to lean your hip out on the foot that you are spinning on. keep your spinning leg dead straight. with the free foot, put it out to the side a bit and raise it high. also try to find the center of the ball of your foot. it will feel slightly bumpy. that is where you want to lean on when your are spinning.

  7. Try not to look at your feet when your skating, that might be what is causing you to go foward. Try to stay on the ball of your foot. Really think- ball of foot, ball of foot. Going on your toepick or back of the blade can cause you to rock. Make sure you are standing up really staright, too. Just keep practicing it, and eventually your balance will improve.
